A lot of couples will agree that this part of the planning process is their least favorite. This can be tricky for some brides but with the right planner this can be a piece of cake! It isn’t always necessary but do not rule it out until you have read my pros and cons for a seating chart! It can be a little time consuming and you may want to scream during some point of this process but in the end you may feel that it was worth it!
Pros: -Sets the tone for a formal wedding. If you are having a rustic/chic wedding and you want to add the formal touch to it, this is the perfect way. It defiantly shows your guest that you thought about them throughout the planning process and wanted to ensure that they had the perfect seat! -No Drama! If you know that your mom doesn’t get along with your step mom then you must ensure that you don’t put them at the same table. Also, this ensures that grandma isn’t stuck all the way in the back, you know you want hear the end of it either! A seating chart will allow you to keep these feuds from happening on your wedding day. This can also help with any other guest that do not get along. Plus it gives your wedding another sense of organization causing less drama! And lets be honest, no Bride wants drama on their wedding day! -Sense of Ease! I am sure those that don’t get along, especially any step parents and/or parents that are helping pay for the wedding, will ensure that they have some sort of input on their seats and want to be as far away from one another as possible. Letting them know ahead of time that they aren’t sitting at the same table will give you and them a since of ease! Scarifying a few hours to ensure that your mom and step mom are not at the same table might be worth it! -No award tables! A seating chart will guarantee that there want be an odd table of just 2-4 people at it while all the others have 8-10. Plus this helps ensure that there are no bare spots in yours pictures. Not to mention, it helps those guest not feel so left out. Not to mention, this could totally kill the mood for these guest causing them to leave early. Plus this ensures that there are enough tables and chairs for all of your guest! Or on the other hand, keep you from renting to many! -Guest feel comfortable! Guest feel more at ease when there is a seating chart because they don’t have to walk around searching for a seat that isn’t already taken or sit at a table where they don’t know anyone. Because lets be honest, very rarely do all guest know each other. One of the hardest parts about assigning guests is knowing who to put where. By placing guest that know each other at the same table helps the conversations flow and ensures that they guest have a great time! Plus since you know your guest the best, you know how to seat them! This is also the perfect time to put that single friend next to the guy that you think would be the perfect match! -Plated Dinner. If you are having a plated dinner where you gave your guest the opportunity to pick their dinner, then it is a must! If not, then your caterer will have a disaster and your guest will be very disappointed. This also helps the caterer have a heads up on where, if any, specialty plates need to go. Cons: -Smaller Wedding! If your guest count is below 50, there really is no need in a seating chart. I say this because most of those guest primarily consist of family and your closest friends who, more than likely, already know each other. -Encourages socializing! Sometimes this helps nudge guest to mingle with each other verses not getting up and socializing with other tables. -No formal meal! If you are only having finger foods and/or passed hor d’oeuvres, a seating chart is not necessary. -Keep is casual! If you are having a country/chic wedding and you want to keep it on the casual side, not having a seating chart would help fit that theme. -Everybody knows everybody! If your friends and family pretty much know each other (this is very popular in the smaller towns where everybody knows everybody) then you may not want to spend the added time and effort into doing a seating chart. -Cute sign! If you don’t want to spend the time to make a seating chart, you can always rent a cute little sign that has a cute saying that tells your guest to sit wherever they want since we are all family now! -Upset Guest. Lets be real, somebody isn’t going to be happy where they sit because they wanted to sit with a certain guest or group of people. Trust me, it isn’t the end of the world. After dinner is over and the dance floor opens up, they will get the chance to catch up then! I sure hope this has helped you on deciding on a seating chart! Let me know what your thoughts are below, I would love to hear them!
